When do you need a nanny cam?
Looking for a bit of added peace of mind when you leave your children home with your nanny? Since we know that whole “eyes in the back of your head” thing isn’t a reality (though that would be nice!), a nanny cam may be your second-best option. But is it right to “spy” on your nanny? While it may seem intrusive, a nanny cam is a legitimate (not to mention effective) way to ensure that your kids are in good hands while you’re away. And if your kids are displaying any of the typical warning signs of a bad nanny, then a nanny cam should be imperative.
If you’ve noticed that your child seems terrified or much more upset than usual at your departure, or if he displays unusual behavior that coincides with a particular caregiver, it may be time to investigate. Other signs your nanny isn’t the best fit include a lack of engagement with you, allowing your children to break house rules in your absence, and excessive accidents occurring while you’re away. If you have a feeling that something isn’t right, don’t second-guess yourself—a nanny cam can be an effective way to be sure.
What is a nanny cam?
A nanny cam is basically a camera that records audio and/or video surveillance of your household. Though it functions similarly to a baby monitor, a nanny cam can be either hidden or exposed. While the practice of covertly keeping tabs on your nanny or caregiver is hotly contested, know that it is legal in all 50 states to do so, as long as you’re only recording video feed and not audio. If you want to monitor for audio, you are required to first obtain your nanny’s consent.
